COLCHICINE

COLCHICINE, [CAS 64-86-8], extracted from colchicum autumnale –autumn crocus- for many years has been the product of choice in the treatment of rheumatic disorders and especially gout.

It has been widely prescribed for its emetic and cathartic action and a major use is for the treatment of familial Mediterranean fever. Investigations are presently being directed towards its potential anti-cancer action. It is understood that a therapy has been developed for the treatment of constipation motivated irritable bowel syndrome involving Colchicine with an anti-inflammatory drug.

Colchicine has various applications within the botanical field, for instance its induction of polyploidy to render hybrids fertile; it is normally well tolerated in plants which are found to be larger and faster growing.

Colchicine had been produced by Andardmount for many years and is now provided by associates.
